2women Dance Documentary

Actors Rehearsal Trailer

Videos

Hi There!
Right!
We have got all our rehearsals BTS online now so start watching!
Only 3 more weeks until the show and the stress is starting to be almost palpable... We know we will be ready comes D day, but, until then, the to-do lists seem to be never ending!
Scheduling everyone in for rehearsals is what I have found the hardest. As we all have day jobs and evening jobs or even classes to juggle with on tops of rehearsals and production work, it's been a real brain twister trying to get everyone in one place at the same time.
I am enjoying it though, just as much as when we started out and I really really can't wait for the 22nd !

Peace!!

Dance Rehearsal sneak-peak...

Here is a link to the video we made about the dance rehearsals- Documentary to follow!

Rehearsals have been going quite well: with a few hiccups with location changes, T9 mistakes and bizarre music rehearsals interrupting our flow, we still have managed to make a huge progress.
Two of the dance pieces have been mastered and just need a couple of changes.
I will be loading up videos to show you just how amazing the dancers are looking.

In terms of acting we have come an even longer way. The characters have really sprung into life thanks to some improvisations we have worked on.
Marie’s journey has suddenly become so much clearly and Shahina’s emotions have become somewhat channeled through those improvs.
Monday the 28th will be our first dress rehearsal with everyone available. I am a bit worried about everyone catching up as some of the artists being busy with other work haven’t been able to make all the rehearsals prior to this week.
But really I know it will all be falling into place like it was meant to be that way from the beginning, like everything else has since the beginning of the productions.
Tickets are now on sale by the way. To book or buy them, email us on 2women.2010@gmail.com.
You can either book them and pay on the day or pay in advance and choose to either pick them up on the day or receive them through post.

We are also still looking for sponsors so please feel free to get in touch if you wish to donate as little as you can afford –even if it’s just £5, it will really help us through!
Stay tuned for more news coming up soon!!

Xoxo

Rehearsals

Last saturday, we had our first rehearsal which left all of us buzzing of excitement.
A reading of the finished script left us a little choked up- and that is only a reading.
Our cast is dedicated to both the show and the cause. Here is a bit more information about them.

Avita

Avita trained at Drama Studio London where her roles included Rosalind in As You Like It, Masha in Three Sisters, and Edward/Betty in Cloud Nine Avita. Since graduating she has appeared in Acting Like Mad's Spare (New Diorama Theatre), Word of Mouth Media Production's Bardathon (The Scoop), Street Seduction with Soulfire Theatre (Brady Arts Centre), The Nutcracker at the Pentameters Theatre and has recently finshed a run of Louis de Berniere's Sunday Morning at the Centre of the World at the Southwark Playhouse. Avita is really excited about being a part of 2 Women and getting another chance to perform at the Brady Arts Centre.

Lynne Armitage:

Lynne originally trained for a career in classical ballet at Bush Davies. Soon after becoming established however, a series of accidents and operations made it impossible to continue in this field leading her to retrain as an actor at Middlesex University and The Actor’s Centre.
On graduating she decided to combine her abilities to create and perform works in contemporary dance and physical theatre touring the country with Tangent Dance and Dust Weblings and working with Complicite and The Lindsay Kemp Company. Later she became a choreographer for The National Youth Music Theatre and even wowed audiences abroad in the oh so glamorous role of Miss Piggy in Jim Henson’s “The Muppet Show”!
More recently Lynne has concentrated on straight acting playing a wide range of roles for the stage including the lead in the theatre adaptation of Neil Jordan’s film “The Company of Wolves” for Chimera, Queen Elizabeth in “Richard the Third” for Lockwood-Taylor Productions and Iris in the WestEnd run and national tour of Jacqueline Wilson’s “Midnight” for Watershed Productions. Her film and TV credits include Peta in “Taxandria” for Iblis Films, Betty Hilder in “Animal Ark” for Zenith Productions, the dual role of Sarah/Laura in “Harry and the Wrinklies” for ITV and Tamsin in “Urban Gothic” for Channel 4.

Rupna:

Rupna was recommended to us by our friend Jen. She is currently studying Performing Arts at South Thames College. She recently performed in the Crucible.
She will be one of our dancers for the show.

I feel so much more peaceful having seen everyone come together and put in a little bit of life into the words we had spent so long writing.
The dancers rehearsed the opening scene on the music which has already been decided upon.
Our choreographer, Emma, came up with some props to use and Artistic dance director Amith oversaw the progression.
" It was so nice to get everyone finally together around this track, which is one of my favourites, and really feeling what this scene was all about. I am very excited to see the final outcome".A.R

In the other room, Lorna is leading the actresses through Shahina and Marie's journey to self-discovery and acceptance.

Our next rehearsal will be on Tuesday, in the Brady Art Center, and I have the feeling that once again this will bring another dimension to our play.

Updates!

Hello Hello!!
I am so excited to be updating the blog with such good news.
Not only have we been generously supported all along with rehearsal space and a room for our workshop when we started out, we now have our very own performance space, seating up to 160 people a night at the Brady Art Center for 2 nights on the 22nd and 23rd of April!

Tickets will be available very soon, box office booking line will be revealed even sooner!

In the meantime let me update you on what we've been up to...

The writing workshops came to an end, and we celebrated by having a get together with our cast and crew in Wandsworth.
Though not all of them could make it, Murielle and her little one were very excited to meet the actress and dancers who would bring life into the characters we had spent 6 weeks building.
The last 2 workshops had been especially intense, working on the emotional journey of Marie and Shahina, our two character through improvisation and open hearted conversations.

Progress and casting

We are now half way through our writing workshops and we have progressed so much!
Out of the 3 women who originally turned up, one has become regular. Although we would have loved the others to stay, and share their experiences too, we are delighted to have Murielle with us as she has already input a lot of her into the creation of the script for 2|women and pointed a few things that me and Lorna had not thought of about our characters.
I will be brining in a first draft next week of the scenes we already have been working on and try and build up on that.

We are also now sure that one of the actresses in the final play will be Lynne who has been in the industry for years and has kindly offered her time to our project. We are still looking for her on-stage friend: Ashanti.
Any one interested please get in touch with us. We are also still looking for dancers.

Fingers crossed, the location that we have our hearts set on will be available on the chosen date! That way we can start promoting and selling tickets!! We had a meeting this week and should hear back by next week.

Looking forward to see the rest unfold!

Scenery Rain Cloud

This is a poem written by Murielle, one of the women we have been working with.
She has already a very visual style of writing and strong ideas about story telling. This piece was actually a part of one of her weekly assignments. We all picked a picture that Lorna and I had printed and came back the next week with something inspired by the image.
This is the first but am sure it won't be the last piece she decides to share with us.

Scenery, Rain, Cloud.

It all started like a beautiful and sunny day.
The kids were outside playing.
You could hear the birds sing.
The mums were out chatting,
when suddenly everything started changing.

One could have said that the end of the world was near.
The clouds were moving in cascade as if racing to cover the sun.
The sky became so dark.
Everyone was running to find shelter.

What started as a beautiful day, turned out to be a very bad day.

By Murielle.
